About This Place

Nestled on the scenic waterfront of The Dock in Paradise Island, Mckenzie’s Fresh Fish & Conch offers an authentic taste of Bahamian seafood cuisine that’s both inviting and memorable. This family-owned gem prides itself on delivering fresh, local ingredients served in generous portions, accompanied by gorgeous views that create a laid-back, island dining experience away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Atlantis.

Their menu is a delightful ode to traditional Bahamian flavors, with standout dishes that truly capture the essence of the sea. The Tropical Conch Salad is a must-try and lives up to its glowing reputation – vibrant, tangy, and packed with the fresh, slightly sweet bite of conch, it arrives in such a generous serving that you’ll feel like you’re savoring a piece of Bahamian culture with every mouthful. Watching the salad being prepared right before your eyes adds to the connection with authentic island hospitality.

Equally enticing are the Conch Fritters, golden and fried to a crisp perfection, offering a delicate balance between the tender conch inside and the flavorful, airy breading. While some guests have hoped for a tad more conch in these fritters, the dish remains a satisfying starter. For those craving heartier fare, dishes like the Fried Snapper with Peas and Rice, Mac & Cheese & Plantain or the Red Snapper & Lobster bring a comforting yet elegant mix of textures and tastes – the flaky fish, creamy sides, and sweet plantains harmonize in a way that speaks to the soul of Bahamian home cooking.

Other highlights include the Grouper Fingers with Plantains Salad, Seafood Combo, and the iconic Bahamian Cracked Conch, each delivering layers of flavor that are deeply rooted in local culinary traditions. If you’re a seafood enthusiast, the freshness here shines through with every bite – from the zingy ceviche to the tender lobster and perfectly fried shrimp.

The atmosphere at Mckenzie’s is warm and unpretentious, enhanced by the friendly, laid-back nature of the locals who frequent the spot. It’s an ideal pit stop for travelers looking to escape the tourist-heavy areas while still soaking in spectacular water views and island vibes. The vantage point makes it a relaxing place to unwind with a cold Sands Beer, taking in the picturesque waterfront scenery as you enjoy your meal.

While the majority of guests rave about the authenticity and flavor, it’s important to note that a few diners have experienced mixed reactions regarding crispiness and portion balance, and a rare caution on freshness was mentioned in isolated cases. Overall, Mckenzie’s Fresh Fish & Conch embodies the spirit of Bahamian seafood dining, offering a genuine slice of local life and flavor that invites you to dig in and taste the island’s bounty.

Whether you’re walking over the bridge from Paradise Island or seeking an unpretentious local spot by the water, Mckenzie’s Fresh Fish & Conch is a worthwhile destination to indulge in classic Bahamian dishes, great views, and heartfelt hospitality.

Not a bad spot if heading to Atlantis or getting away from the crowds. Has a nice waterfront view and the food is good, but not incredible.

THE GO TO SPOT! Any time we go somewhere we try to find the local spots l. Especially when they are family owned establishments. After a a little research i found Mckenzie’s and it did not disappoint! Fresh local ingredients, large portions and a great view! The conch salad is everything people say it is!!!

The tropical conch salad is delicious! The serving was huge! You can see them making it right in front of you. We also tried the conch fritters which had good flavor and an ok amount of conch in them, but they could have used a bit more compared to the breading. We also got the cracked conch which was served with hand cut fries. The conch was really good! The fries were not as crispy as I prefer, but I was there for the conch anyways so it was fine. The service was friendly, but it is a little bit slow. We were the first 2 people in the restaurant for the day and it took over an hour for the 3 menu items to be served one after the other. We were splitting them all so it worked out fine for us that the meal was not delivered all at once, but just be aware that it’s not super fast dining and could be slower depending on the size of the crowd. The atmosphere is ok, it’s just a small place with several tables. The best spot is all the way in the back by the water so you can see fish and eagle rays swimming around! It’s about a 30 minute walk from the port and the road has spots where the sidewalk ends and you’ll have to cross to the other side - if it rains there are tons of potholes and deep areas that accumulate water and make for an interesting walk lol, but it is walkable (with kids I might consider a cab). It’s about 1.2 miles from the port and we got a cab there - the guy charged us $20 - and we walked back, stopping at the rum cake factory on the way. The bathroom is a public bathroom shaded by everyone on that strip of road (many other seafood joints) it’s all the way at the end of the road, a blue building on the left side as you walk down the road. With all due respect, the area seems a bit rough, but we didn’t experience any issues with anyone approaching us.

The Tropical Conch salad was excellent and clearly a local, authentic dish — absolutely worth ordering. It’s also well worth walking over the bridge from Paradise Island to explore some of these local spots. We’re not big fried-food people, but everything we tried was very tasty. The place was crowded with a great view, and the locals were incredibly friendly and happy to share their knowledge about the food and nearby places to visit. A great experience overall.

Although my partner got food poisoning since he ate 3/4 of the quart (I ate a smaller portion), we still would recommend trying it—albeit a smaller amount. He can no longer stomach ceviche, citrus-y food after this experience and any thing of the sort makes him queasy. Just 6 hours after dining here, the entire toilet was filled with the same stuff served in the quart, and it came out the same hole it went in. But I was fine and quite enjoyed what I ate! While staying at the Cove Atlantis, we took the shuttle over to Marina Bay and walked from there (20-min). It was HOT in mid-July but the walk was quite doable. Enjoyable dining experience, we were left at the table to enjoy the bay views and fish. You can even buy cleaned conch shells as souvenirs for much cheaper than at the markets. We got a heaping serving of the iconic, conch salad made fresh (and in front of us).

Hole in the wall restaurant serving up delicious local food. Interior is on the smaller side and there’s one room with air conditioning. We got the cracked lobster and grouper entrees and each came with rice and peas and two sides of our choice. Fresh and tasty. They accept credit card as payment however the network is spotty and it can be a hit or miss. We ended up paying with cash. We found taxis from right outside the restaurant afterwards.

A great place to stop for food, just make sure you're not in any kind of rush. The food was super fresh and fantastic. The tropical and seafood salads were being chopped as we watched and the chef flew through the process so quickly you just know he could make them in his sleep. Make sure to grab a table at the windows and enjoy the views and the aquarium level variety of fish in the waters below. The only negative is just the amount of time it took just for a lunch. You're definitely on island time here, so make sure you're not in a rush!

A classic Bahamian experience: An authentic taste of the Bahamas, MacKenzie Conch Salad paired with an ice-cold Kalik is pretty much the perfect combo !!
